  3. Maximize your available memory by quiting out of other programs,  turning off unnecessary extensions and control panels.
  4. Turn off  virtual memory.   Virtual memory should only be used if required memory is not available.
  5. Turn off file sharing and other network software.
  6. If using a PowerBook,  turn off processor cycling and use the fastest processor speed available.
